Carriers
Our cost-effective backhaul services seamlessly integrate into the Mobile Operators’ networks to extend and complement their network coverage.
Government
From remote government offices, outposts to border security and disaster recovery, Avanti provides secure, resilient and ultra-reliable Ka-band communications in the most arduous and critical operational locations.
Satellite Industry
We provide immediate and flexible capacity to satellite operators and integrators.
Technology and innovation are the beating heart of Avanti
In 2010, we were the first British commercial company to launch a Ka-band satellite, HYLAS 1. Today, we own and operate a fleet of high-throughput satellites covering EMEA, including state-of-the-art steerable capacity. On the ground, we have built a secure and resilient ground network to serve our communication industry partners across EMEA.
LATEST NEWS
Avanti wins the Satellite of the Year Award
We have been crowned the Satellite of the Year Award for Technology and Innovation for the second year in a row at the Tech Innovation Awards in Nigeria (TIA).
Being recognised by TIA is a phenomenal achievement and testament to the impact Avanti are having in Nigeria.
In 2020, we started a programme to bring digital connectivity to thousands of sites across Nigeria, with the aim of closing the coverage gap and improving the welfare of the local communities. To date, we have deployed over 500 ultra-rural sites in 21 Nigerian States, providing life-enhancing 2G and 3G connectivity to 1.5 million people and we are set to deploy another 10,000 sites over the next 5 years.
5G FROM SPACE
Leading the way on satellite communication for 5G
Satellite communications play an important role in the extension of 5G cellular networks in particular to rural and hard-to-reach areas. We are working on the ever greater integration of satellite into the 5G ecosystem. Together with leading technology partners, we aim to develop and validate new technology, such as the first integration of a commercially available 5G core network with a live satellite network. This is an exciting development that will continue the path of changing lives through technical innovation.
HOW WE HELP
Powering the UK’s emergency services with EE
EE partners with Avanti to provide Satellite Cellular Backhaul to over 1,000 fixed and portable base stations across the UK. EE uses bandwidth from Avanti’s Ka-band satellites that connects all EE LTE sites across the country.
Avanti’s satellite cellular backhaul helps EE reach more remote and rural areas of the country, whilst simultaneously boosting the resilience of the network.
“The performance, reliability and versatility we get from satellite is really key for us. It has been part of our design and rollout of our network and how we actually operate the network in life.”
Richard Harrap, Managing Director of Emergency Services Network – EE
HOW WE HELP
Rural connectivity
Africa as a continent faces a challenge to connect rural users due to the nature of the landscape. Often the CAPEX required for fixed infrastructure to serve rural settlements that are beyond the main towns and cities is commercially non-viable for mobile network operators. Whilst microwave backhaul is an option in some locations, in many instances line of sight or distances involved require expensive and fragile multiple hop links.
Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation came to the realisation that satellite was the most cost efficient and quickest means of connecting these rural areas and commissioned Avanti to deploy VSAT services to remote locations across Tanzania.
HOW WE HELP
Connecting ships across the North Sea
We provide robust maritime broadband connectivity for a major Scottish ferry operator, providing 100% coverage of the ships’ routes across the North Sea and a private dedicated bandwidth pool shared between the five ferries and freight vessels.
“The new service, using Avanti’s Ka-band high throughput satellite, provides a significant increase in capacity for the ferries with fully scalable and dedicated bandwidth for both corporate operations and passengers.”
