Avanti announced as headline sponsor for Youth Charter ‘30’ SA report launch

London, 16th June 2023 – Avanti Communications (“Avanti”) has been announced as the headline sponsor for the Youth Charter ‘30’ SA Report Launch. Taking place in Johannesburg on June 16th, the launch commemorates the last three decades of Youth Charter’s work and will see historic scrolls, signed by Nelson Mandela, returned to South Africa.

Youth Charter was established with the aim to promote the value of sport, art and cultural activities in the lives of young people. Thirty years on, Youth Charter’s work remains critical in healing damaged communities and giving hope and opportunity to young people all over the world.

Avanti is a longstanding partner of Youth Charter and supports the organisation with their sport, education and digital development projects.

In 1996, Nelson Mandela, alongside key sports personalities from South Africa, signed nine scrolls supporting the work of Youth Charter. At the launch, these scrolls will be presented to Mandela’s granddaughter, Ndileka Mandela, and Thembi Tambo, daughter of Oliver Tambo, in a symbolic gesture that will cement Youth Charter’s commitment to the youth of South Africa.

Kyle Whitehill, CEO at Avanti Communications, said: “We are honoured to be sponsoring this historic launch. We have seen the impact that access to sport, the arts and digital education can have on individuals and communities, which is why we are proud to be supporting the work of the Youth Charter. We will be supporting the #GlobalCall2Action by making our own commitment to connect 10,000 schools and villages across Africa over the next 5 years, impacting more than 100 million lives and enabling communities to enjoy a connected life.”

Geoff Thompson (MBE), said: Youth Charter ‘30’ will bring together a diverse and intergenerational list of representatives from public, private, NGO, community and third sector, government and youth organisations to discuss the future of the youth in South Africa and beyond. Knowing the importance of sport, education and strong digital infrastructure in the region, and its impact on young individuals’ future prospects, we are thrilled to have Avanti sponsor our launch. We are also delighted to confirm that Apartheid Sport for Development hero and IOC honorary member, Dr Sam Ramsamy will join us for this historic event.

The Youth Charter ‘30’ Report launch will support the #legacyopportunity4all pledge which was made following the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Youth Charter’s #GlobalCall2Action. This will see 50 community campuses developed, 50,000 social coaches trained and deployed and 5 million young people directly engaged through sport, art, culture, and digital education.
